About the coffeehouse

THE MISSION OF the coffeehouse:
To Serve the Citizens of the World

 WHAT IS the coffee house?

A place for OSU students to study during the day
the coffee house is an incredible place for students to come before, between and after class to grab a cup of coffee and study.  the coffee house is perfectly equipped.  There are electrical sockets in large number and free wifi is available.

Helping the world economy through trade
Each month all proceeds from purchases at the coffee house are donated to various ministries and mission points around the globe.  For example, in the month of September all proceeds are going to His Nets, a Christian response to the global malaria epidemic in Africa.  In the future, the coffee house will purchase goods from countries around the world – those we already have established relationships with through mission trips such as Guatemala, Ukraine, Ghana, Kenya, etc.  This venture into the fair trade market will help their economies and assist them to reach their own life goals.  Possible items to sell are bags, jewelry, woodcarvings, and coffee.

WHAT ARE THE OPERATING HOURS FOR the coffee house?
Currently, the coffee house is open Tuesdays through Thursdays, noon to 11 p.m.; Sundays, 3-8 p.m..  Eventually, those days and hours of operation could be changed or expanded.

HOW IS the coffee house STAFFED?
the coffee house is run solely by volunteers.  In addition to church members of all ages, since its opening many patrons have requested the opportunity to work the coffee house. It’s a great place for students to get their service hours while they study.  Anyone can volunteer.

HOW HAS the coffee house BEEN RECEIVED BY THE OSU COMMUNITY?
Students are very enthused about the coffee house.  The O’Collegian (OSU’s daily newspaper) published an article on the front page for the grand opening.  In addition to the proximity to campus and the friendly atmosphere, the comments most often received from students relate to the opportunity it provides to participate in the global economy and impact those less fortunate around the world.  More than anything else, this aspect of the ministry is the drawing card for the globally-minded university community.
